Easter Fun

I truly love the holidays, big or small, they are all each fun and unique in their own way. Even if its the special foods that we make on those certain holidays or in this case the Easter Egg Hunt. This year Kaiya will actually be old enough to understand how to find the eggs and that each one will have a special surprise just for her. I am thrilled to spend those special moments with my wonderful child (even though she a brat 90% of the time).

I have racked my brain for weeks on how to make our own special Easter traditions and what to put in her Easter basket. I have come up with the wonderful combination of the things that she loves and only a little candy.... I have an Easter basket surprise I would love to do but I am too scared that  Ellie (the dog) will eat the "rabbit droppings" before Kaiya can follow them to her basket and left over carrots from the bunny.

Kaiya has been especially spoiled this Easter, she has gotten "early" Easter gifts from all of our extended family, between shopping spree's and boxes full of goodies she is a happy little girl. Though this makes it more difficult for us to pick and chose what to get her we know what she has gotten and what she would like more/want of.

Dinner will be amazing, even though our "original" plans have been changed we wont let that damper our moods. I cant wait to make our yummy food and spend a full day with my family. I am truly blessed between the life that I have chosen and the decision that I have made. Work is amazing and I am truly blessed to have found such a wonderful company to work for, I will be here until they close there doors or until we are no longer in Virginia. My wonderful/crazy husband, we have our ups and downs but love can defeat all odds. Last but not least Kaiya and Ellie, my two wonderful, crazy kids that both drive me crazy, but I couldn't live with out them.

As a child I never really thought how much work it is for the "fantasy characters" that surround the holidays. Now as a mom I see that it is difficult and the traditions they she will remember for ever and they will be the same each year. I have to say that I do not do the very exact same things that my parents did for us or the Cody's parents did for him, but we try and combine all of our traditions and change/make new ones for our special family.

Happy Easter to all and I hope the Easter Bunny brings lots of spring to you!

Friends at a Distance

How close is too close for friends? We have been asking our selves that the past few days, its not that we don't enjoy friends and having people over, but is living 3 buildings down too close?
Here is the situation:
We have some good friends that are going to be moving literally right next door. Now we like to hang out with them and have family dinners and what not, however we still like to keep our friends at a safe distance. We do not like it when people expectantly drop in or come over for every little thing or when they fight. Now we have known them for almost a year (a long time for military people) and they have had their ups and downs and we have our own opinions on everything. The issue at hand is that we have what they don't  so when they want to say use the computer and internet they ask to come over, well in tow is the WHOLE family including kids, one is the same age as Kaiya and then they have an infant. Well when they come over its fine and dandy for the first 2 hours but when we get into hours 4 and 5 and the kids are getting at each other, my house is turned upside down and I am fully irritated and cleaned out of juice and food and my trash is full, lets just say that is enough for me.Not to mention that they only have 1 vehicle and the husbands both work at the same place in the same unit and everything, so "ideally" for them carpooling would be great so she can have the car and do what ever. "Ideally" for us, that isnt going to be happening. We have our own life outside of friends and I am not wasting more money on things that other people need to do, go and take care of because they wanted to "carpool".
Now our issue is how do explain/tell them that we are great full for them to be our friends, yet we would still like the distance that we had when they lived 25 mins away. We have gone over various scenarios and all of them sound totally selfish and rude and these are the people who will take it that way and feel like we hate them and abandoned them in their time of need (which we totally havent, and we have been more then supportive financially and friendly in their "times" of need).
I know it sounds a little like we dont like them, we do, we just like our space and distance from them... Now the question comes as to what do we do and how do we do it with out being extremely rude.

Anniversary

Today marks 2 years that Cody and I have been married... sometimes it feels more like 10. However that being said we had a wonderful anniversary date on Saturday night. We are truly great full for our friends coming over and watching Kaiya.
We started off at the gun range, it is a good thing we were getting along that day, then we headed over the local Mexican Restaurant  it was time for some overfilling good food and tequila filled margarita's. I dont drink often but when I do it will most certainly be a margarita on the rocks with sugar on the rim. One pushed me over the edge, Cody likes his with salt on the rim and he being the bigger drinker between us was perfectly fine.
We had a great time and it was a joy to celebrate 2 long years together and hopefully we can make it another 2 years.

Happy Anniversary my love!

The two weeks we have had

It has been an amazing, emotional and long two weeks. Lets start off my stating that it is never easy to be married or have children. Here is a short breakdown of what we have done/been through: We finally filed our taxes and got everything figured out (we hired a tax consultant to do them since we live in Virginia and our residency is in Arizona... so on so forth) we are semi-pleased with the refunds that we will be getting back. All I have to say is that we are thankful for having a child and getting the tax breaks that we get.
Our next big thing is still working on potty training, Kaiya really got the hang of it these past couple of weeks. She is still in a diaper at night but she is in panties all day at school and most of the weekend, unless we go out some where for a while, she loves being a big girl and it shows. This was an emotional let go for me, I am losing my baby and gaining a little girl. It is all very exciting and she is growing up way too fast. However I still do not want anymore children. She is wild enough for me.
My mom came in town for a week (Wednesday to Wednesday). I was truly blessed to get some quality sleep, even though her and Kaiya both got sick. We had tons of fun, we went shopping, got our nails done, went to the Virginia Aquarium, out to eat a few times and watched a lot of girly movies when it rained for 3 days straight. I really needed that break and time with my mom, I am sad that we wont get to see her until she comes out next which will be this fall or if we can make it back there sometime this summer. Kaiya loved having her andma in town but it makes us miss all of our family and friends back in Arizona, Nebraska and everywhere else that they may be.
Cody spent most of last week and weekend getting ready to go to the field for a week and helping his friend fix his car. By the time Sunday rolled around he was truly exhausted and was ready for a true weekend, but like true military fashion he had to wake up at 1am on Monday morning to go to the field for a week. Luckily they pretty much got everything fixed on his friends car so we can spend some quality time when he gets home this weekend. I feel like it has pretty much been 2 full weeks since we have actually spent more then 3 hours awake together.
I have been busy as well, just the normal every day wife, mother and daughter stuff. I was blessed to be able to take 2 days off of work to spend with my mom and daughter and then a full weekend of rain, grocery shopping and laundry. Now its the middle/end of the week and I have more laundry and cleaning to be done but it will all be worth it when I get a weekend to relax and do the things that need to get done.

Well this pretty much sums up our lives, boring but crazy and we love every minute of it, in retrospect that is.

Have a blessed rest of the week!

Valentines Day

Today is one of those love it or hate it kind of holidays... I mean you cant win either way, if you dont have a valentine then you are always bitter about the holiday and wished you had one... Then once you do have one and you have been together for a while or married it is one of those holidays in which they have to buy you something.
I want to make today more about a valentines day for Kaiya. My dad always brought my sister and I a rose or a gift to school for us. It was something so special that I have always remembered and been appreciative about. I am hoping that Kaiya finds the innocent kind of love in the holiday that most kids find, I am sure school has something planned that is heart themed. She is also so proud of her projects that she makes. I love seeing her so enthusiastic about coloring and that she did it all by herself..

Anyways. I truly hope everyone has a wonderful valentines day whether you have a valentine or not. It is truly just another day.

Past Few Weeks

Its about time for another post... These past few weeks have been nothing short of a hard time... First is was lack of sleep due to Kaiya waking up at 3:30am every morning and not going back to bed until 5am (what is the point is going to sleep for 30 mins before work), to potty training and cleaning up throw up.

We will start with the first one, we went from sleeping through the night and waking up at 6:45am to waking up at 3:30am... What for? Who knows. I know that I am tired of getting up so early and not being able to go back to sleep... Even when she goes to bed later she is still waking up that early. Any ideas on how to stop it? We have tried letting her cry herself to sleep (that only results in no one sleeping and the cops knocking on the door at 4am), we have tried to lay with her but that is what she wants and expects it every time. so we are now open to suggestion.

Potty training, you would think that this would be exciting and something that is easily done... NOT! well not for us that is, she wants to do it, she has taken her diaper off, thrown it away and sat on the potty. However she doesnt always remember to go and if we remind her she thinks its a game and runs and sits on it and gets up to only later pee on my carpet 5 mins later. I have learned to have handy clean towels and vinegar water to clean up my floors. My only wish is that daycare would step up during the week and have her go on the big potty. They will only ask them if they need to and if they say no they dont make them, they will just change their diapers and let them be on their merry way. I only wish I was home with her for a full week to help her with this task.

Puke, this has been something that I HATE doing. I really dont think anyone likes to clean up someone else puke... Well the first day it wasn't even my own child  we had a small play date and from the first 5 mins of them coming over i had vomit all over my carpet to only 2 hours later a full washer of towels and a few of Kaiyas outfits gone did they finally settle down to leave. Lord and behold the next night Kaiya to start puking up. So there went a few more loads of laundry and a quick trip to the ER to get some Zofran for the nausea and on our way home at 11pm to get some sleep. I can tell you this that I am hoping that she learns to know when she will puke in the future so I dont have to scrub my carpet and wash every blanket and towel in my house.

These are just the few big things that have happened these past few weeks, others include Kaiya's fresh black eye from falling on the window seal and taxes not going to what we planned....

Sometimes in life you have to sit back, breath and laugh at your life and carry on...

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

Potty Training

So to every 2 year old, potty training is a momentous time in their life.... for the parents it is extra laundry, less diapers and a lot more being aware of what time it is and when they went last.
This past 3 day weekend was one of those hair pulling  exciting and frustrating weekends. Kaiya wanted to be naked all weekend (despite the 30 degree weather). She kept pulling her pants around her ankles taking off her diaper and yelling potty potty potty and running to the bathroom. To her this is exciting to us parents it is exciting and a lot of work. She never did once go in the potty but yet in her diaper I imagine right before she realized she had to potty. So countless diapers later and hours of wrestling with her to keep some clothes on we are hoping that potty training will go better.
When I dropped her off at school today, they said that we are going to start working on a potty schedule and that they will call us in and sit us down to discuss the schedule. We will need to keep the same one at home and at school making bathrooms easily accessible so we have little to no accidents. Also always have at school at least 5 outfits, 7 pairs of panties and 2 pairs of school appropriate shoes.. Now this isnt that big of a deal except for the fact that Kaiya's shoe size is an odd one and we have to spend 30.00 a pair. I am not one to throw money away or to let my kid run around in cheap shoes....
I never believed my parents when they said kids are expensive you wait and see... Well now I see, diapers and wipes to tons of clothes, panties and shoes. I wonder how we stay afloat sometimes...
Any potty training tips would be appreciated! I am losing my mind with chasing her down after she has already gone.

YAY for the POTTY
